Dr. Osvaldo Muniz
 

Dr. Osvaldo Muñiz-Solari

Osvaldo Muñiz-Solari holds a Ph.D. in geography from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and an M.A. in geography from Michigan State University, East Lansing. He is a professor in the Department of Geography at Texas State. His initial academic preparation was in pedagogy in geography, history, and civic education at University of the North, Antofagasta, Chile. As a geographer, he held academic positions in several universities and developed international consulting work mainly in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile. His specialties in geography education are focused on new technologies for international collaboration, online learning methods, and scientific networking. His research interests in economic geography are related to global economy and international flows in South America. He has been member of the steering committee for the International Geographical Union’s Commission on Geographic Education since 2008.

Dr. Michael Solem
 

Dr. Michael Solem

Dr. Michael Solem is a Research Professor and Director of Research for the Grosvenor Center for Geographic Education, Co-Director of the National Center for Research in Geography Education, and Senior Adviser for Geography Education for the American Association of Geographers. He is principal investigator on several large-scale, federally funded projects spanning geography at all levels of education, focusing on professional development, internationalization, global education, and teacher preparation. Dr. Solem’s publications include articles in the Annals of the Association of American Geographers,The Professional GeographerResearch in Higher EducationEducation About AsiaThe Geography Teacher, the Journal of Geography in Higher Education, and the edited books Aspiring AcademicsTeaching College Geography, and Practicing Geography. He currently serves as Associate Director of the Grosvenor Center for Geographic Education at Texas State University and is Treasurer for the International Geographical Union’s Commission on Geographical Education. Dr. Solem is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Geography in Higher EducationReview of International Geographical Education Online, and the Journal of Research and Didactics in Geography. He has twice received the Journal of Geography in Higher Education’s award for promoting excellence in teaching and learning for his research on faculty development and graduate education in geography. Dr. Solem is the 2015 recipient of the AAG Gilbert Grosvenor Honors in Geographic Education.
