This year in Frisco, the Texas Council for the Social Studies annual conference was held. The Texas Alliance sponsored the Geography Strand and it was filled with dozens of great geography teaching ideas! 

Oct 16-19 2025

Texas State was well represented at the National Council for Geographic Education (NCGE) annual conference held October 16 - 19 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Ph.D. alum Lisa Elikan won the Salvatore J. Natoli Dissertation Award.

Sept 24 2025

On September 24th, Dr. Boehm was commemorated with a room dedication for his 55 years of service to Texas State University. ELA Room 145, is forever now the Richard G. Boehm Conference Room. A celebration was held afterwards.

Dr. Zadrozny and Stacie Aguirre provided professional development on Powerful Geography virtually for Texas Alliance teachers on July 10th and traveled to Lubbock to provide a workshop for teachers at Education Service Center Region 17 on July 15, 2025.

The fourth recipient of the Val Wilkie Jr. Award or Excellence in Teaching Geography award was Justin Whalin, a world geography teacher at Frontier Stem Academy.

MAR 29 2025

We collaborated with the South Asia Institute at UT Austin on a teaching unit focused on Solutions for South Asia. The unit explores the region through solutions that are being developed to face the challenges and issues. Expert speaker: Samira Bashar - talked environmental planning in Bangladesh.

LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections

FEB 8 2025

We collaborated with LLILAS on Powerful Geography to develop a teaching unit focused on bamboo in Latin America. The unit includes lessons focused on the topics of agriculture, sustainability, and ecotourism. Expert speaker: Dr. Ximena Londoño de la Pava.
