Since 2004, the Geography & Environmental Studies Student Research Symposium (GESSRS) (formerly GSRS), has been organized annually by a student-led committee to enable Texas State University students, undergraduate and graduate students from across the southwest, and geography educators to meet, interact, and collaborate in a research conference setting.

GESSRS is an opportunity for students to share their research as well as practice and receive feedback on their research presentations (paper and poster). The conference is free, includes meals, and offers an optional field trip (for a small fee) on the following day. The event concludes with a paper/poster award ceremony and a keynote address by Dr. Harvey Miller (Department of Geography, Ohio State University).

Registration is now open! Please note that it is not a requirement to present a paper or poster at GESSRS, but we ask all attendees to register prior to the deadline so that we have an accurate participant count for meals, etc.
  • Registration and Abstract deadline for presenting students: February 1, 2023
  • Registration deadline for non-presenting students and others: February 15, 2023
